Acrylic and paste on canvas, 12”x 18
On this piece, I did an experiment with the goal to re-create the oxidation effect from rust. I ran layers and layers of wet diluted paint on the canvas to create a build-up of several colors or to create a worn and older look. I’ve always loved Rothko’s abstract color pieces and one of the things that makes his abstracts so successful is his mastery of layering. When I got the layered effects to my liking, I went into the color with irridescents to create the rusty, reflective looks that are so beautifully found in nature.
