Retouched

November 5th 2019

This is another acrylic on canvas that incorporated my daughter’s modeling picture plus a cute photo copy she took of her face and hands on a copy machine when she was about 11. I took her modeling print card and gave it a militant look and juxtaposed it with the freedom of a young girl smashing her face against the glass of a copy machine. The point of naming this piece “retouched” was to draw attention to how much images of models can be drastically changed and then only tell the viewer it’s been retouched. There needs to be some reform in the modeling world where the expectations to unrealistic standards can really distort what bodies and faces truly do look like. And, I also wanted to draw attention to the fact that faces smashed against a copy machine are just as “perfect” as a beautifully poised woman.
